Name: Cassiel Rousseau
Age (in 2020): 19
Best international result/s: 9th at the FINA World Diving Championships
Major goal for 2020: My main goal for 2020 is just to have fun and enjoy what I’m doing currently doing while still working hard and trying to achieve the best I can.
Most memorable sporting moment: For diving I would say going to the world championships and achieving 9th in the world for 10m platform. I also got to experience my largest international competition and learning from it.
Biggest challenge you have faced: In elite sports everyone gets injuries and for me, it was my back. I got a stress fracture in my back just before Junior World Championships which means less experience in the international world of diving. It also meant I was never able to go to a junior worlds again because I am too old now.
What do you like most about your sport? My favourite thing about this sport is that compared to sports acrobatics, it is an individual sport. This means I don’t have to think about how other team mates are going in terms of their potential injuries and how they're feeling. In diving, I just have to focus on myself which takes the pressure off me because I know how I feel and I also know what I need to do to perform well.
Who/what inspires you to achieve your best in sport? I don’t necessarily have anyone that inspires me in Diving because I’m relatively new to the sport, but I would definitely say my grandfather who was a gold medal Olympian in the 1956 Olympics. He always taught me to be strong and resilient until the very end before he has passed away and I want to do well because of him.
Favourite food/drink: My all-time favourite food would be a Karage rice bowl from sushi shack and sushi shack only.
Favourite song/music: It really depends what mood I want to put myself into or the mood I’m already in. If I want to get pumped before training or a competition I would put on some EDM but if I want to chill I would put on either some Frank Sinatra or BB king or Jaque Brelles or any music from the 50’s or sometimes some Lo-Fi.
Favourite destination: A good thing about diving is that I get to travel a lot and the majority of the countries I go to is amazing even if I am competing and I am grateful for the opportunity to travel to many places. However, I would probably say France is my favourite, as my mother grew up there. I also just love the culture and the language as I can speak French, which makes it a little easier.
